About the RoleJoining our Case Assessment Clinical Team (CACT) in NSW, you will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team supporting participants who have been recently released from Immigration Detention to re-integrate into communities, equipped with the skills and support to manage their psychosocial and health needs, and gain sustainable employment and accommodation.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will be providing functional and physical rehabilitation assessments, training, and follow-up occupational therapy recommendations for recipients of Department of Home Affairs support (NZYQ cohort).
Responsibilities include:
- As necessary, and in consultation with stakeholders, educate and advocate for intervention to support client's overall functional goals, such as assistive technologies and task modification suggestions.
- Recommend and support SRSS care team and stakeholders to understand physical and daily life barriers of clients and use a strength-based approach to support progress on client-focused goals.
- Be part of a multidisciplinary team approach for individual clients, including relevant case management support like referral pathways support, and providing short-term holistic support.
- Complete clinical and progress case notes and relevant documentation and record keeping in a timely manner, as required in departmental contract.
- Provide indirect services to clients by preparing and presenting information/education programs, sessions and workshops to other agencies, professional groups, families and individuals as required.
- Contribute to the production of appropriate resource materials that will enhance SRSS and CACT professional skills.
- Work in collaboration with other personnel within the organisation to provide consultation.

We're seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist who has a broad understanding of issues faced by clients transitioning back into the community following time in detention and can utilise their expertise in this dynamic field.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Occupational therapy with Full National AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registration.
- 2+ years Occupational Therapy experience, ideally in a physical rehabilitative context. Forensic clinical experience is highly desirable but not essential.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational therapy and mental health, including methods of assessment and evaluation, treatment options, associated risks, etc. and experience in implementing interventions.
- Demonstrate experience in evidence-based service provision and commitment to recovery-based programs, implementation, and evaluation.
- An understanding of common physical and mental health concerns, especially developmental, trauma, alcohol and drug use, and how to assess clients with complex presentation and history.
- Commitment to maintaining professional development and good clinical practice, including an awareness of ethical and clinical concerns working in programs funded by governmental bodies.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, organise work in an effective manner and maintain partnerships.
- Ability to demonstrate an empathic and trauma-informed perspective when interacting with clients from non-English speaking backgrounds. Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse clients is highly desirable.
- Travel is a required part of the role so you will need to possess a current driver's licence and be flexible to travel interstate occasionally.
