About the Role

Our team is growing, and we have an opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Canberra office. This position is on-site, 1-2 days per week.

As a Paralegal, you will provide support for administrative and legal tasks across various practice areas. In particular, you will provide support to the busy Workplace Relations & Safety team. This team specialise in all aspects of workforce management - from employee engagements and contracts, industrial relations and workplace safety, to disputes, grievances and terminations. Across all of our work, we develop strategic solutions that help to minimise risk, educate, and improve safety and compliance.

This role is ideal for law students who are seeking meaningful casual employment while pursuing their studies. The position provides comprehensive training and the opportunity to gain legal experience and accelerate legal skills by assisting with both client matters and pro bono projects.

Responsibilities

• Performing case law research, preparing memos and briefs.
• Reviewing documents to develop detailed chronologies.
• Providing administrative support to workplace investigations, including reviewing interview transcripts, drafting allegations, preparing evidence matrices and extracting relevant information for investigation reports.
• Compiling and preparing briefs for counsel.
• Matter filing management, including saving, renaming and organising incoming documents into the appropriate matter files and folders, ensuring consistency and accessibility.
• Proofreading documents for accuracy, grammar and consistency in formatting.
• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders via phone and email in a professional and personable manner.
• Providing comprehensive administrative support, including legal matter assistance, file organisation, document retrieval, and accurate data entry.
• Supporting lawyers and senior legal staff with ad hoc administrative and operational tasks as required.
• Performing duties at and overseeing the reception desk as needed.

About You

• We welcome applications from law students currently in their 3rd year and above of study.
• Demonstrated research skills across LexisNexis, Westlaw and Jade.
• An exceptional working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of products and Adobe.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, spelling and grammar.
• Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
• Strong teamwork skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Administrative support experience desired but not essential.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
• A desire to learn and develop new skills.
• A flexible, friendly and approachable manner.
