Volunteer: Safari Filmmakers: Capturing South Africa's Majestic Wildlife on Camera — role at Global Nomadic.

Responsibilities
  • Develop photography and filmmaking skills with our expert team as part of an Environmental and Media program paired with Wildlife Filmmaking.
  • Explore diverse platforms and capture Africa's wildlife on camera, including land-based and underwater photography to build a versatile portfolio.
  • Engage with clients such as broadcasters, corporations, NGOs, and media outlets; contribute to marketing materials for advertising and social media campaigns.
  • Learn from professional photographers during a Garden Route exploration to produce stunning photographs of Africa's wildlife and travel scenery.
  • Develop, film, and edit your own wildlife documentary in an African game reserve, gaining experience in camera operation, directing, producing, scriptwriting, and broadcasting.
  • Benefit from a hands-on, practical training approach with close mentorship from experienced trainers.
  • Understand the program structure: 4 weeks total, with the first and last weeks focused on pre-production and post-production, and a 9-day immersive on-reserve filming experience.
  • Gain knowledge in setting up your own business, writing business plans, and effective marketing strategies.
The Experience

Your journey in wildlife documentary filmmaking will be guided by a renowned environmental and media company that specializes in bringing attention to African environmental issues. The company collaborates with broadcasters, corporations, NGOs, and media outlets. You'll also have the chance to delve into underwater photography, broadening your skill set and creative potential.

Throughout your 4-week experience, you will develop, film, and edit your own wildlife documentary set in an African game reserve. By the end of the course, you will have created a 5-minute documentary film showcasing your abilities and kickstarting your career in wildlife filmmaking.

The program is structured with a balance of theoretical and practical learning, beginning and ending in Mossel Bay for pre-production and post-production work. The heart of the course is a 9-day immersive experience living on a reserve, where you will be fully engaged in capturing the wonders of the African wilderness on film. This hands-on experience provides the foundation to break into wildlife documentary filmmaking.
