Epworth Freemasons is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Medical Oncology Registrar (Advanced Trainee). This is a 6-month RACP accredited training position commencing in August 2025. The position offers a unique opportunity to embark on a comprehensive training journey in medical oncology within a leading not-for-profit private hospital setting.

About Epworth

Epworth offers comprehensive cancer services at four of our major hospitals. Our facilities encompass specialised wards, modern day oncology units, radiation oncology services, and palliative care. With over 40 Epworth-accredited oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists.

The Freemasons oncology unit includes a purpose-built day oncology area, a short day / day medical unit and a 40-bed inpatient oncology ward.

Epworth prioritises the professional development of our trainees and you will be supported by five senior oncologists. You will benefit from weekly teaching sessions by supervising consultants and protected time to attend the VMOTG Friday teaching sessions and weekly journal club. You will engage in a formal mentorship program identifying a suitable research project to undertake across your training. Epworth has strong involvement in clinical trials in addition to wider research activities. This is supported through Epworth's Research Directorate and includes an inhouse biostatistician to assist with the composition of meaningful research parameters and outcome evaluation.

As an advanced trainee you will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (Gastrointestinal, UroOncology, Breast and option to join Head and Neck, Lung and NeuroOncology) and audit activities under the supervision of the consultants, present cases and make recommendations. Epworth's quality and audit directorate also supports trainees through the audit process. There are no on-call or out of hours requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Daily ward rounds and patient management
  • Day oncology duties and management
  • Admission and review of patients including those participating in research trials
  • Attendance at outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Active involvement in audit activities and treatment-planning meetings
  • Elective duties in radiation oncology and oncology-based diagnostics
  • Academic commitments including journal club and undergraduate student teaching

In adherence with the RACP Advanced Training in Medical Oncology Program Requirements all advanced trainees require a breadth of clinical experience and skills in:

  • Caring for acute medical problems and chronic illness
  • Attending to the emotional needs of patients and families
  • Controlling and managing symptoms
  • Administering end-of-life care.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • Unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Eligibility for registration with the RACP for Advanced Physician Training
