Overview

Senior Geotechnical Engineer role at GHD in Perth, Western Australia. GHD has provided geotechnical services to clients in Australia for over 65 years and employs a diverse team of geotechnical professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Work with a wide range of experienced geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, pavement engineers, geophysicists, hydrogeologists and geo-technicians at a national and international level.
  • Contribute to project delivery, including identification and management of risks, and ensure outputs are of a high technical standard.
  • Undertake geotechnical analyses in areas such as deep excavations, slope stability, foundations, retaining walls, and pavement designs.
  • Interpret and analyse data to develop practical and commercial solutions.
  • Interact with clients through pursuit, tendering and delivery phases, with opportunities to address business development tasks in a relationship‑oriented environment.
  • Provide technical mentoring for junior team members to build and develop skills and ensure team success.
What you will bring to the team
  • Degree level qualifications in geotechnical / geological / civil engineering. Postgraduate qualifications in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology are beneficial.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering/industry experience in geotechnical consulting, including fieldwork data gathering and site investigation reporting.
  • Aim to provide strong technical leadership, mentoring and advice; ability to prioritise, coordinate and lead teams performing field investigation and analytical design work.
  • Ability to carry out geotechnical analysis of slopes, shallow foundations, piled foundations, deep excavations and retaining structures using industry standard software or methods (AS1726-2017). Experience with, or willingness to learn, numerical modelling software (Plaxis 2D/3D and Abaqus).
  • Focus on client service, good people relationships and networking skills.
  • Strong personal dedication to Health and Safety in geotechnical projects and alignment to HSE procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management skills appropriate for large or sophisticated projects, with good judgement and decisiveness; bias for action.
  • Willingness to travel and work on remote sites, with a current manual WA driver's license (or equivalent).
