Overview

Gardener - Handyperson role at Department of Education, Western Australia. This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2025.

Established in 1981, Glencoe Primary School (PS) is located in Halls Head, 75 kilometres south of Perth. The school serves Kindergarten to Year 6 with an enrolment over 420 students for 2025.

The Role

This position will have working days of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Gardener - Handyperson will provide gardening, grounds, and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. You will maintain the school grounds and gardens, including turf management and a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping. Minor repairs and maintenance may be performed as required in line with Department policies and guidelines.

To be successful, you should possess knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials, and chemicals. You should display effective communication skills, be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff and external stakeholders, and ideally be able to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and complete required tasks. Being well-organised, detail-focused, and a team player is important.

Responsibilities
  • Provide gardening, grounds, and facility management to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive school environment.
  • Maintain and present school grounds and gardens; manage turf and landscaping needs.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, in accordance with departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Apply knowledge of safe gardening practices, equipment use, and chemical handling.
Eligibility and Training

To work with us, you will need to:

  • Obtain a valid Working With Children Check.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
