Multiple opportunities available to work as a supervisor of a portfolio of banks and payment providers. Develop supervisory skills to support high quality analysis & risk assessment in the financial industry. Various locations Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The roleAs the Senior Analyst, you will perform prudential supervision and risk assessment across a defined group of supervised banking and payments organisations to achieve APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system.
Some roles include contributing supervision insights to policy reform, including on Australia's payments regulation and APRA's licensing framework.
The teamThe General Insurance and Banking Division supports APRA's core function by undertaking prudential supervision and risk assessment activities to achieve the government and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system. The Division's strategy focus is to improve outcomes for banking and general insurance customers.
As a key member of the supervision team, you will collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including risk specialists and policy and advice division. You will also engage externally with Government departments, other regulatory agencies, industry associations and regulated entities.
Key responsibilities- Proactively identify issues and developments and raise through appropriate channels;
- Apply a strong understanding of frameworks/standards/legislation/codes and the risks they seek to mitigate;
- Examine the internal structure and business relationships of supervised organisations, focusing on high-risk areas;
- Engage with supervised organisations to assess the quality of management, strategies, practices and systems;
- Foster and maintain good relationships with internal stakeholders and other regulatory agencies;
- Contribute to policy on regulation through collaborative engagement with stakeholders in APRA and from the financial sector and other government agencies;
- Assess licensing applications to analyse their compliance with prudential standards and the applicant's suitability to be granted a licence; once licenced, supervise the new entrant.
- A strong understanding of the banking sector, prudential framework and/or payments;
- Strong financial analysis, investigative and research skills;
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills to develop solutions for complex issues;
- Ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders internal and external at multiple levels;
- Strong priority management skills;
- Good judgement and strategic awareness, and the ability to operate with significant autonomy;
- A team player with a positive mindset and an energetic approach; and
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
