Overview

Position: Research Fellow – Occupational and Public Health at La Trobe University.

About the position

One of the larger schools within the University, the School of Psychology & Public Health undertakes teaching and research across a broad range of disciplines, including: Neuroscience; Psychology; Counselling; Rehabilitation Counselling; Art Therapy; Family Therapy; Public Health; Digital Health and Analytics; Health Information Management; and Ergonomics, Safety and Health. The school comprises six academic units: the Department of Public Health, the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Therapy, the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research (CAPR), The Bouverie Centre and the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC).

The Department of Public Health is a leading authority in many areas of public health including health policy, health promotion, health systems, services and management, digital health and analytics, health information management and informatics, and occupational health. The Department hosts a number of specialist research units and programs, including the: Palliative Care Unit (PCU); the Centre for Health Communication and Participation (CHCP); and the Centre for Ergonomics and Human Factors (CEHF).

Research areas include health promotion, vulnerable / at risk populations, chronic illnesses and disability, end of life care, health information management, digital health, health policy, systems and management, gender and health, occupational health, and public health practice.

This position is to support an ARC funded project (DP250100393) focussed on developing a model of sustainable work to enable long working lives. This project aims to build a contemporary post-covid model of sustainable work, through examining the necessary workplace conditions required to address current age and gender inequities. A model of the key requirements for supporting sustainable work will enhance our capacity to create more equitable conditions to address current age and gender inequities.

This three-year position will support the research team in using existing data sets and the collection of new data to inform the development and testing of a new contemporary model of work.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline e.g psychology, ergonomics and human factors, public health.
  • Evidence of experience in research and evaluation and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.
  • A record of publications, conference papers and/or reports.
  • A record of mentoring early career researchers and / or HDR supervision.
  • Experience in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, lead write up and all stages of research process.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner.
  • Relevant research software expertise such as Stata, NVivo, EndNote etc.
