Principal Aboriginal Heritage Consultant

Umwelt is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and delivery-focused Principal Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to join our growing Heritage team in NSW. This role can be based in Newcastle, the Central Coast or Sydney.

With over three decades of experience and nine locations nationwide, Umwelt provides fully integrated environmental, social and heritage assessment and management services across sectors including renewables, infrastructure, defence, regulation and policy, resources, and urban development.

• Leading the delivery of heritage projects, overseeing project teams, planning and delivery of fieldwork, managing budgets and timelines, and ensuring project goals are met
• Engaging with clients to understand project requirements, provide expert advice on heritage and archaeological matters, and develop tailored solutions that meet client needs while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices
• Effective stakeholder engagement with internal and external stakeholders relevant to the role
• Presenting technical findings and communicating with non-technical audiences, including clients and community
• Applying knowledge of heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelines to assess significance, develop conservation strategies, and mitigate impacts on heritage values
• Providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff to develop skills in heritage and archaeological management and consultancy

• A degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
• A minimum of 10+ years of experience
• Preferably experience in a consultancy environment
• Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation and associated regulations and guidelines, with NSW experience highly regarded
• Demonstrated leadership, including project management and team coordination
• Interest and experience with client relationship management
• Australian Driver's licence (ideally with 4WD experience)
