About The Opportunity

SWSLHD are seeking an experienced NUM to join the Mental Health team at Campbelltown.

We are seeking a true leader, someone who is willing to grow and develop personally and professionally to ensure the quality and safety of their team and consumers. You will be innovative and be ready to challenge the norm. We are seeking someone who is excited about bettering mental health services and who will be heavily involved in leading the clinical and corporate functions of the unit and have input into how things are done. You will be adept in writing models of care and be eager to collaborate with clinicians, nurses, managers and other stakeholders to develop a patient focused method of care.

You will be understanding of the business and be driven to meet the goals and expectations of the team. You will be dynamic in your leadership and be a person of influence in your role. Fostering a positive culture which is receptive to change is an important part of this role and you will be resilient in your approach.

The role requires an innate compassion and kindness whilst having a passion for improving Mental Health services in the district. What You'll Be Doing

The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) is in-charge of all aspects of the unit environment and takes overall responsibility for the standard of patient care in the unit. The NUM is pivotal to the coordination of patient care, unit management and leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and efficient use of resources.

Where You'll Be Working

SWSLHD Inpatient Mental Health Services provide comprehensive care across several facilities, including the newly redeveloped Campbelltown Hospital and Liverpool Hospital. These services offer a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals with acute and non-acute mental health needs.

The multidisciplinary teams, consisting of professionals with diverse mental health expertise, deliver exceptional care through specialised units such as the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit, Adult Acute Unit, and Older People's Mental Health Unit. The service is committed to patient safety and high-quality care, maintaining external accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience or a combination of study and experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
  • Describe your experience in leading nursing teams and managing services in acute mental health setting. How have you ensured the effective use of human, physical, and financial resources to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive care?
  • Provide an example of how you have effectively communicated and collaborated with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to identify and respond to care needs. How did you manage any conflicts or performance issues that arose?
  • Explain how you apply critical thinking in your role to support evidence-based nursing care. Include examples of your involvement in risk management, work health and safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
