The Role

We are seeking a Quantitative Software Engineer to be the Founding Engineer on our team. This individual will be responsible for architecting and implementing the firm's entire data infrastructure from the ground up.

This is a hands-on engineering role with significant autonomy and strategic influence. You will have the opportunity to design and build critical systems while working directly with the firm's principals. The core challenge is to apply sound engineering principles to solve complex problems in financial data modelling and analysis.

Your work will directly shape the firm's analytical capabilities and technical strategy. We expect you to take ownership of the entire development lifecycle, from architectural design to implementation and maintenance. This is a partnership in building the future of financial data analytics. Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain the firm's backend data processing pipelines in PythonDevelop and manage robust API integrations to financial data sources (Bloomberg, Refinitiv, proprietary systems)Architect and administer the firm's core database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), with a strong focus on data integrity, performance, and scalabilityImplement quantitative logic for data reconciliation and financial modelling supportManage cloud infrastructure (AWS) that underpins our systems, ensuring security and efficiencyCollaborate with the investment team to translate complex financial requirements into robust technical solutionsDesign and implement testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure code quality and system reliability

Qualifications

Exceptional programming skills in Python, including deep expertise with its data analysis ecosystem (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)Strong academic background with a degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics). A postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) is highly preferredDemonstrated expertise in database systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), including architectural design and performance optimisation for large datasetsExperience designing and building scalable, reliable systems on cloud platforms (AWS preferred)A clear, first-principles approach to problem-solvingProfessional experience in a quantitative or data-intensive environment. Prior exposure to finance, accounting, or trading is a significant advantageDemonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in an environment with minimal supervisionAustralian working rights (essential)
