The Opportunity

We seek an exceptional leader to serve as Managing Director, providing strategic direction and inspirational leadership to our dynamic global organisation. Reporting to the Chair of the Board and working closely with the Board of Directors, this prestigious tourism leadership position sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, government policy, and international marketing excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement Tourism Australia's strategic vision, including Strategy 2035
• Lead comprehensive marketing initiatives across 16 key international markets spanning Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas
• Manage diverse teams across Australia and international offices, driving operational excellence
• Oversee brand strategy, digital marketing innovation, and significant budget management
• Represent Australian tourism at major international forums, trade events, and government meetings
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with airlines, distribution partners, international tourism organisations and government departments
• Collaborate with State and Territory Tourism Organisations and manage Business Events Australia
• Ensure compliance with governmental and regulatory requirements across global operations

Essential Requirements:

• Minimum 10-15 years senior leadership experience, including 5+ years in C-level or Managing Director roles
• Proven track record managing multinational teams and delivering measurable growth within complex stakeholder environments
• Deep understanding of Tourism, travel, and hospitality industries combined with sophisticated understanding of brand messaging across different markets
• Strong government relations experience with ability to influence Tourism industry outcomes and navigate regulatory environments
• Exceptional stakeholder management capabilities and outstanding communication and negotiation skills
• Comprehensive financial management expertise including budget oversight, analysis, and forecasting
• Experience in governance, risk management, and ensuring regulatory compliance
• Resilience to thrive in fast-paced, constantly evolving Tourism industry
