Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia RT Edwards Full time

Make a real difference in the lives of animals in regional Queensland.

RSPCA Queensland is a non-government, community-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of domestic, farmed, and native animals across the state. Our mission is simple but powerful: Together We Change Lives.

About the Role

Join our Rockhampton team in a hands-on leadership role that supports both animals and the Inspectorate team. You will coordinate the Foster and Offsite Adoption Programs, manage daily care for animals at our holding facility, and provide vital administrative support to the Inspectorate team. You may also assist in wildlife rescues alongside our Rescue team. This diverse role combines animal husbandry, behaviour support, community engagement, and logistics, all aimed at achieving the best outcomes for animals in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily health checks, enrichment activities, and animal husbandry at the Rockhampton facility.
  • Coordinate and implement behaviour assessments and enrichment programs.
  • Safely transport animals to vet appointments and ensure stress-free handling environments.
  • Support Inspectors in the field and coordinate transfers to other RSPCA sites.
  • Maintain accurate records in our animal care systems.
  • Provide guidance and support for Op Shop staff when required.
  • Maintain local inventory and ensure accurate data entry for Inspectorate evidence and records.
  • Support adoption and intake paperwork processes.
  • Liaise with vets, councils, and other partners involved in animal welfare.
  • Participate in staff rostering and training.
  • Act as the primary contact for foster carers and offsite adoption centres, ensuring positive relationships.
  • Administer preventative treatments such as vaccinations.
  • Support community programs like Pets in Crisis and partner rescue networks.
  • Represent RSPCA at events and contribute to education, adoption, and awareness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support animal welfare programs.

Who Are We Looking For?

We seek a flexible and compassionate team player with a passion for animal welfare and strong organisational skills. You should be confident handling animals, capable of working autonomously, and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated animal handling skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail and good time management.
  • Physical ability to lift and handle animals (minimum 10kg).
  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the RSPCA.

Benefits & Culture

  • Flexible working arrangements supporting work/life balance.
  • Health & lifestyle leave options including paid Parental, Study, Volunteer, and Companion Animal leave.
  • Free on-site parking, staff discounts, pet vaccines, and 50% off Royal Canin food.
  • Access to mental health support via TELUS Health (EAP).
  • Salary packaging and novated leasing options.
  • Be part of a purpose-driven organisation making a genuine impact.

Apply now Shortlisting may begin before the closing date.

Please note: The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Police Check and may need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.

Support all creatures great and small by making a monthly or single gift. Your support helps us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals every day.

Our volunteers are vital to our success. Without them, RSPCA Qld could not help the many animals that come into our care each year.

Our goal is to find safe, loving homes for the animals in our care. Take a look at the animals waiting patiently for a new home now.
