The Graduate Enrolled Nurse program offers early career nurses the opportunity to develop professionally in various clinical areas and consolidate their knowledge and develop their skills in a supportive workplace environment.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Works within the scope and practice of an endorsed enrolled nurse under the direct/indirect supervision of the registered nurse (RN).
  • Utilise best practice clinical standards as a framework to provide optimal clinical care to patients.
  • Obtains support and advice regarding performance expectations, management of clients and application of policies and procedure from the RN as required.
  • Act as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Delivers care and administers medication within the role boundaries and legal limitations of enrolled nurse practice.
  • Follows defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling appropriate behaviour.
  • Ability to work shift work and be redeployed to other clinical areas to meet clinical needs.

Selection criteria

Essential

  • Current registration as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Completion of an approved NMBA course in administration and monitoring of medicines and intravenous therapy.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability (under the supervision of the RN) to co-ordinate client care resulting in positive clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to contribute effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of social and cultural challenges experienced by vulnerable groups/communities and the role of the nurse in supporting them.
  • Knowledge and application of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles in a health care setting.
