The Azure Systems Administrator plans, coordinates and delivers specialised and expert technical systems analysis, design, development and maintenance functions to ensure the quality of applications. This may include enhancements of existing applications or the development or configuration of complex new systems.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver expert data analysis, design and modelling services for complex or business critical applications.
  • Ensure the quality of the Azure cloud environment and enhancements by planning, coordinating and conducting specialist development tasks within agreed timeframes.
  • Provide expert specialist advice in relation to analysis, design and security access, testing, writing of user procedures or other documentation.
  • Lead and perform high-level systems analysis and operational solution design for complex and critical applications.
  • Perform quality reviews of specifications and programming to ensure that all work conforms to IS&T standards and methodologies.
  • Initiate engagement with, and involve the users in the development of, new or enhanced systems and applications for the full lifecycle.
  • Work closely with integration specialists to ensure robust system services include appropriate integration of applications across supported applications.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and partners to provide high level advice and analysis in relation to the structure of systems.
  • Resolve complex and critical incidents and outages, including diagnosing issues and coordinating and implementing workarounds that may impact service-wide operations.
  • Coordinate, administer and maintain existing applications and associated services throughout their life cycle by working with Application Support Analysts to maintain quality and availability, undertaking production support activities and rectifying complex failures as they occur.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation of the systems and interfaces used.
  • Plan, coordinate and undertake complex system maintenance, administration and configuration activities.
  • Recommend and develop solutions to support complex business problems/initiatives using existing applications.
  • Undertake high-level analysis and identify, implement and coordinate application improvements, including upgrades and enhancements to improve application warranty and utility.
  • Provide expertise into the adoption of Azure Cloud functionality and maintenance of an appropriate application support knowledge base.
  • Contribute to project success by providing expert advice on project impact on existing applications and solutions, including technical dependencies and current operating environments.
  • Lead, develop and plan application solution requirements through interpretation of functional and non-functional requirements and recommend solution options.
  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of new applications and solutions.
  • Prepare, coordinate and/or execute testing to support changes.
  • Collaborate with the Quality and Assurance Branch and project teams to ensure successful operational handover of projects.
  • Engage with vendors to address complex and critical system issues and progress enhancements as needed.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Contribute to a service-oriented culture and align service and practice to industry-standard SDLC and ITIL methodologies.
  • Regularly review application support processes and plan, develop and implement strategic improvements that improve customer experience or the warranty and utility of applications.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and engage in solution activities, improving work instructions, processes and knowledge management.
Qualifications
  • Significant experience in Azure cloud services and system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience working on large and complex IT projects involving business transformation and technical implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), RBAC, and IAM.
  • Experience with Azure networking (VNets, NSGs, VPNs, VWANs, Azure Firewall, ExpressRoute).
  • Experience with Azure Policy.
  • Experience with Private Endpoints and Private DNS Configuration.
  • Experience with API Management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, One Lake, Data Factory and Dataverse.
  • Experience with Azure Portal, ARM templates, Terraform and Bicep.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills.
  • Ability to document procedures and configurations clearly.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working in ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
  • Effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide technical guidance when required.
  • Experience maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including managing expectations and resolving conflicts.
  • Familiarity with application development tools, version control systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
