Estimated start date: Saturday, 01 November 2025. Location: Adelaide, South Australia (SA). Working arrangements: The contractor will work from the office location for a minimum of 6 weeks before work-from-home will be considered. Any WFH requires a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

Length of contract: 12 months. Contract extensions: 2 x 12 months. Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1. Rates: $100 - $130 per hour (inc. super).

Service Australia is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services. The Senior Gateway Engineer provides expert advice on the management and maintenance of ICT platforms, works with key third party suppliers to ensure robust gateway infrastructure, and liaises with architecture and shared services to ensure security of day-to-day operations. The role emphasizes independence and high-level judgement with guidance from senior staff.

• Design, evaluate, and implement infrastructure requirements to meet future demand
• Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities
• Prepare, review and maintain documentation (design docs, implementation plans, test plans, support procedures)
• Assist in developing and implementing strategies, operational policy and change initiatives
• Participate in change management and communicate end-to-end implications of configuration changes
• Provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic guidance to senior executives
• Share knowledge and mentor less experienced colleagues
• Research emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency
• Engage with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
• Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence outcomes and share information
• Encourage continuous improvement and contribute to ICT strategy; manage and support change
• Manage operation of backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions
• Manage regular maintenance of patches and support packages across technical layers
• Manage administration and operation of the Gateway network kit

• At least five (5) years demonstrated experience in design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments
• Demonstrated proficiency in designing services using F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems
• Experience with network infrastructure design and deployment including Cisco Data Centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches); routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
• Experience with Palo Alto firewalls and IPS solutions
• Experience in VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) solutions
• Experience in design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services
• Experience in development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation
• Knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight
