Position

Laboratory Manager

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring all tests are conducted in compliance with relevant standards such as AS 1289, AS 1012, and AS 1141.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements and manage audit processes.
  • Supervise the scheduling and execution of tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, and other construction materials.
  • Ensure that accurate and timely test results are delivered to clients while maintaining quality control standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and train laboratory staff to maintain high standards of technical competency.
  • Ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and certifications to perform their duties efficiently.
  • Implement and maintain internal quality control procedures to ensure the reliability of test data.
  • Oversee calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment to uphold testing accuracy and reliability.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the laboratory and ensure that all work is carried out following health and safety regulations.
  • Manage environmental compliance initiatives relevant to laboratory operations.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their needs and ensure test reports are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Oversee the preparation of test reports, ensuring proper documentation, including site selection and sampling as per ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Manage laboratory supplies, consumables, and equipment procurement.
  • Ensure optimal resource allocation for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Stay updated on new test methods, standards, and technology advancements in construction materials testing.
  • Implement innovative solutions and best practices to improve laboratory efficiency and quality.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum Diploma Laboratory Operations or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical and construction materials testing.
  • Proficiency in conducting a variety of laboratory tests and operating relevant equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Signatory for Australian Standards across soil, aggregate and concrete.
