The work area

RevenueWA collects revenue on behalf of the Government and pays grants and subsidies to Western Australians. Although a business unit within DTF, the Commissioner of State Revenue is an independent statutory role and is personally responsible for the administration of State taxation and grant laws by RevenueWA staff. This administrative function covers the application of duties, land tax and payroll tax laws, as well as carrying out compliance audits and investigations, and developing revenue related legislation. RevenueWA increases taxpayer awareness through education programs and manages the legislative appeals process.

The Department of Treasury and Finance currently operate under two sets of organisational values, following its formation on 1 July 2025. The role

The Revenue Consultant / Senior Revenue Consultant assists the Director Legislation and Review and the Assistant Director Legislation Services with developing legislation and policy for the State taxes, royalties, and grants and subsidies schemes administered by the Commissioner of State Revenue. Other responsibilities include advising on tax law and policy, researching tax avoidance practices, and developing countervailing legislation.

The successful applicant will be appointed at Level 5 or Level 6 depending on how they meet the relevant essential criteria. This is also a criteria progression position, that allows a person appointed as a Revenue Consultant, Level 5 to progress to a Senior Revenue Consultant, Level 6. This requires the person\'s behaviour and technical expertise to develop so that they satisfy the specific competencies of the higher level. Please note that the progression is not automatic.

The ideal candidate

You enjoy interpreting and applying legislation and have an interest in, or experience with, developing legislation and policy. You have good analytical and problem-solving skills that allow you to analyse complex matters and clearly articulate the issues. You have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write in plain English, and thrive in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.

The position operates in Personal Leadership context. This means that you are required to demonstrate personal accountability for delivering excellence and support your team and agency in delivering strategic goals. You will be expected to build and nurture relationships and be willing to seek feedback and learn.
