About The Facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong's CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

Women's Services at University Hospital Geelong is committed to provide the best quality evidence based care for the women of Geelong. We are an expanding service that aims to deliver excellent clinical training to all of our team. Working in a multidisciplinary team we collaborate with highly skilled midwifery, nursing & allied health staff. We have regular obstetrics & gynaecology case review meetings as well as perinatal M&M meetings. We provide in house multidisciplinary training including PROMPT & FSEP. Our aim is to ensure that all team members that work in our department are given opportunities to flourish. Each trainee will have training for their needs. In gynaecology we have access to early pregnancy service, general gynaecology, pelvic pain clinics, urogynaecology. In obstetrics there are pregnancy care clinics, foetal medicine, maternity assessment unit & intrapartum care. You will have access to ultrasound training, training in gynaecology & pregnancy care clinics, and training in intrapartum care.

About The Role

To provide safe and effective supervised clinical management of patients within the Women's Services division. This includes but is not limited to assessment, admission, management, investigation and discharge. The 12-month SRMO position at Barwon Health in Women's Health is targeted at RMOs who already have experience in Women's Health and have a strong interest in either becoming GP obstetricians or apply for FRANZCOG training. The job is designed to increase exposure of the candidate to procedural obstetrics and gynaecology skills (e.g. assisted vaginal delivery, Caesarean section, minor gynaecology procedures) along with critical clinical decision making with the intent of preparing the candidate for an unaccredited registrar Women's Health post the following year. The job will have a junior leadership role (orientation, communication, rostering, education) within the RMO cohort in the unit of 3 x 6-month DRANZCOG candidates and 6 3 x month general RMOs. The opportunity will exist to complete a DRANZCOG Advanced if the candidate has already recently completed the DRANZCOG Basic.

The role will require participation in the roster for after-hours, on-call and recall as required by the unit.
