Overview

Shortlisting and interviewing will commence immediately. The ITC Youth Worker role is based in Lochinvar, NSW, within MacKillop Family Services' Intensive Therapeutic Care Program. The position reports to the House Manager. Responsibilities
  • Assist young people to develop living and life skills.
  • Model and reinforce positive behaviour through social learning, social responsibility and emotional intelligence.
  • Promote democracy and support young people to engage in a participatory environment where they can have a say in and influence the decisions that affect their lives.
  • Provide support to children and young people living in the accommodation service, including undertaking household duties such as cleaning, shopping and meal preparation as required.
  • Provide trauma-informed care with a focus on recovery from trauma; provide an alternative to long-term residential care; protect and keep children and young people safe; provide pathways to less intensive service types and permanency.
  • Provide a broader range of placement options for children and young people to support outcomes across mental health, physical health and education.
Primary Objectives
  • Provide trauma-informed services that achieve positive outcomes for young people and their families.
  • Provide safety, stability, predictability and consistency by implementing house guidelines and individual strategies and case plans.
  • Participate in team, house and case review meetings to ensure services meet young people's needs.
Key Selection Criteria
  • Diploma of Youth Work, Community Services or equivalent (minimum).
  • Aboriginal staff – a qualification is desirable but experience and willingness to participate in training is essential.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in youth services, residential care or supported accommodation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and awareness of issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and young people who have experienced significant challenges and trauma.
  • Valid and current Driver's License; Satisfactory Criminal History Check; Working with Children Check; NDIS Worker Screening Check.

  • Hourly rate based on SCHADS Award 3.1-3.4, depending on qualification and experience.
