Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Process Control Group

Join to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Process Control Group role at UNSW. The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is required to carry out scientific research on an aspect of an ARC Discovery Project on "A Probabilistic Approach to Big Data-Based Industrial Process Control" (DP250101137). The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to undertake research on control theory and machine learning techniques for project DP250101137. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering. This role reports to Professor Jie Bao and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level A - $91,381 - $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full Time
  • Fixed-term contract – 24 months
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
Responsibilities
  • Carry out scientific research on control theory and machine learning techniques for project DP250101137.
  • Collaborate with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering.
  • Contribute to publications and conferences as appropriate.
  • Engage with project team and stakeholders as required.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Theoretical and practical experience with process control and modern control theories including nonlinear control and stochastic systems theory, ideally Behavioural Systems theory and applications.
  • Ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Understanding of UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

Skills & Experience
  • PhD in Engineering or Mathematics.
