Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is now accepting applications for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual to join their leadership team as Head of Department. We are seeking an energetic leader with experience across any of the following: Mathematics, Technologies, or Health and Physical Education. The successful applicant will be collaborative, energetic, and flexible with a passion for leading and encouraging the building of teacher capability in relation to curriculum and pedagogy. Your role will also include the development of quality teaching and learning resources and teacher opportunities through your educational leadership, participating in delivering the Department of Education's vision - Equity and Excellence. This opportunity requires the successful candidate to have strong flexibility, independence, leadership, change management, and communication skills.

Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is the first school to be opened in the inner city Brisbane in over 50 years. Our school opened in 2020 with 140 Year 7 students and currently has 840 students enrolled in years 7 to 12. Our first Year 12 cohort will graduate this year. About the Role:

As a Head of Department, you will have accountability across a range of curriculum areas and co/extra-curricular activities as well as whole school strategic and/or operational processes. You will have a role in pastoral care for students and line management of staff. Experience in these areas should be clearly articulated in your application. You will be an agile leader with a record of success in providing quality learning outcomes for all students. As an instructional leader, you will be focused on developing students who are problem-solvers with decision-making agility and risk-taking skills who can move into the future with confidence and resilience.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
• Set high standards for student and staff performance.
• Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
• Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
• Be futures-oriented and strategic.
• Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
