The Role

A State Government agency is seeking a Principal Health Scientist - Health Impact Assessment to lead a specialist team responsible for integrating public health science into regulatory decision-making.

This role plays a vital part in assessing and preventing environmental public health risks from pollution and waste, supporting evidence-based advice and building strategic research partnerships. The role is based in Melbourne's north-east with flexible hybrid work arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the health impact assessment function to inform policy and regulation.
  • Direct complex public health investigations, reviews and technical advice on pollution and waste-related risks.
  • Manage a high-performing team, fostering a positive, accountable and ethical culture.
  • Stay across international best practice and evolving public health standards.

About You

  • Extensive experience in environmental public health, health impact assessment, or applied epidemiology.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex health risk advice to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience managing teams, driving performance and building capability.
  • Strong understanding of human exposure assessment related to pollution and waste.
