Overview

The Team: The Nursing Director Critical Care Services is a senior leadership position within the Launceston General Hospital Department of Medicine.

The Role: The Nursing Director - Critical Care is responsible for leading nursing staff and services within Critical Care Services at LGH, in consultation with the Director – Department of Medicine (DoM). The role requires leading patient care in an inter‑professional environment to achieve the objectives of the Critical Care Stream within the DoM. A collaborative working relationship with the Nursing Director Acute Medicine and Nursing Director Sub Acute and Ambulatory Services ensures operational plans for each DoM stream are aligned. The Nursing Director - Critical Care reports to the Executive Director Clinical Operations and Performance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership and management of nursing staff and services within Critical Care Services at LGH, in consultation with the Director – Department of Medicine (DoM).
  • Lead patient care in an inter‑professional environment to achieve the defined objectives of the Critical Care Stream within the DoM.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Directors of Acute Medicine and Sub Acute and Ambulatory Services to align operational plans across DoM streams.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director of Operations and Performance provide leadership and support on accreditation and patient flow; direct the operational activities of designated clinical services consistent with Hospitals North objectives; manage human, financial and material resources to achieve these objectives.
  • Assist in the development and application of clinical management policies, protocols and guidelines to evaluate services against best practice standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction in research/education, continuous quality improvement and innovative redesign.
  • Manage clinical and corporate risk within the established framework while ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Support Nursing Unit Managers, Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Educators to facilitate initiatives to enhance the quality of patient care across all areas of responsibility.
Details of appointment

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 1 February 2026. Hours not fixed and may be negotiated with the successful applicant. For a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies.

Salary and benefits

Salary: $159,884 per annum. Employer superannuation contribution of 12% is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% may be available based on qualification type.

Salary Packaging: Access to salary packaging a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year, plus other eligible benefits.

Eligibility and selection process

Eligibility: Successful applicants must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse. Desirable criteria include relevant post graduate qualifications.
