The Senior Learning Designer will lead pedagogical initiatives to enable and support the design and development of student-centred learning experiences. The Senior Learning Designer will work across the Production Team to support the Head of Learning Design & Development Learning Online to ensure the on-time delivery of new and refreshes course development.
Specifically, the Senior Learning Designer will identify pedagogically sound, effective, innovative and fit-for-purpose course design that aligns learning, student support, retention and completion and assessment activities. This role will work with Subject Matter Experts and video and technical employees to create online learning courses that comply with agreed quality standards (Quality Matters), whilst also ensuring that the online design optimises the student learning experience.
Responsibilities: Course Development and Leadership:
- Provide leadership, expert advice and support in online learning design and pedagogy across a variety of courses.
- Design, develop and implement effective and innovative online learning techniques and strategies to create a 'best practice' online student experience.
- Create learning experiences that are in line with OES's quality standards, and that are innovative, engaging, active, learner-centred.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (internal and external) to create resources and learning activities that support learning outcomes, within agreed timeframes.
- Partner with specialists to create online tools to deliver a best practice online student experience.
- Regularly evaluate and analyse online practices and delivery methods with respect to the achievement of student learning outcomes.
- Develop course based on agreed quality standards.
- Contribute to a professional culture and working environment that is based on the premise that happy and engaged people are essential to the success of the business.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather insights and expertise for content development.
- Write clear, concise, engaging and pedagogically sound course materials that align with learning objectives and target audience needs.
- Organise and structure course content to ensure logical flow and effective learning progression.
- Apply instructional design principles to create interactive and immersive learning experiences.
- Adhere to style guides and formatting guidelines for consistent and professional course presentation.
- Assist in the design and creation of assignments, quizzes, and assessments that assess learner understanding and knowledge retention.
- Identify practical exercises and activities that allow learners to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world scenarios.
- Collaborate with videographers and multimedia specialists to integrate multimedia elements, such as images, videos, and interactive components, into the course content.
- Coordinate with the course production team, including third-party contractors or providers, to ensure timely delivery of course content.
- Participate in project planning and progress meetings, providing updates on content development status and addressing any issues or challenges that may arise.
- Provide leadership and oversight in the development of practical application segments in video content, detailing the required demonstration techniques or procedures related to the course area.
- Incorporate instructional design principles to ensure effective knowledge transfer and engagement in video-based learning materials.
- Collaborate with the video / multimedia team to ensure the seamless integration of practical application segments within the course videos.
- Review video post-production outputs, and provide editorial feedback to enhance the quality and instructional effectiveness of the final videos.
- Proofread and edit course materials to ensure grammatical accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Possess 3-5 years of experience in the education or relevant field, demonstrating expertise in a diverse range of courses.
- Experience in online teaching environments, including online, that addresses contemporary approaches to learner-centred, flexible education.
- Demonstrated experience in innovative design and delivery methods and tools for online student support, teaching, retention and student completion.
- Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of online Learning Management Systems
- Have knowledge and understanding of educational methodologies, training processes, and assessor requirements.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
- Display proficiency in typing and word publishing, ensuring accurate and efficient creation of course content.
- Demonstrate flexibility in work methodologies and adaptability to collaborative environments, promoting effective teamwork and coordination.
- An appropriate post graduate tertiary qualification in education or relevant discipline would be highly regarded.
- Project management experience and an understanding of project board design and update.
- Apply basic prompt engineering to optimise learning experiences using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, generative AI).
