Halls Gap Zoo

Halls Gap Zoo is situated in the foothills of the Grampians Mountain ranges, Victoria,
Australia. Our collection comprises of 120 species of native and exotic mammals, reptiles
and birds.

We are currently seeking an experienced keeper to work primarily with our Carnivore
collection. The species within this include Cheetah, Otters, Red Panda, Serval and Native
Carnivores.

Working as part of a small, friendly team you will have genuine opportunities to implement
new ideas to the zoo, contribute to breeding programs and make a difference.

Duties of the position will include:

1. Daily food preparation, presentation, and husbandry for a variety of species.
2. Animal observation and record keeping.
3. Managing breeding, enrichment, and training programs.
4. Assistance in animal capture and veterinary procedures.
5. Public animal encounters and sharing daily animal care to customers.
6. While Carnivores will be your primary focus, you will be trained across other rounds to
   assist the team as required.

Desirable skills and attributes:

1. Minimum of 3 years' experience in a paid Zoo-Keeping position.
2. Willing to be flexible on the rostered round and through the day to assist the team as
   required.
3. Proactive in identifying husbandry and enclosure related issues.
4. Experience in training and conditioning.
5. Knowledge of behavioural and environmental enrichment techniques.
6. Ability to interact with guests to provide an educational experience.
7. Mature team player with proof of a positive attitude with visitors and driven to connect
   our visitors with our wildlife.
8. Current unencumbered Full drivers' licence.
9. Current Working with Children Check or ability to obtain.
10. High level of physical fitness. We are a small team with a busy workload that is divided
    into standard round routines, we are looking for an individual who is capable of the
    physical aspects of a keeping role.

Hours of work: Part of a rolling 4-week roster, 8 hour shifts (8.00am to 4.30pm or 9am to
5.30pm). Remuneration subject to experience.

Must be able to work weekends and public holidays.
