About the RoleThe Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is a free community-based tertiary mental health service provided through the WCHN across South Australia, providing care to those with severe and/or complex mental health needs.
CAMHS provides services to: infants / children / young people up to 18 (16 in some areas) for community, state-wide and hospital-based services for children and perinatal women.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive therapeutic assessments and collaborative treatment plans.
- Implement individual, family, and group therapies using various models and skills.
- Act as a consultant and resource person, providing information and education on child, adolescent, and family mental health.
- Contribute to research and evaluation programs to enhance clinical services.
- Foster positive team relationships, participate in the education and training of CAMHS staff, and provide supervision for students.
- Provide a safe, consistent and appropriate telephone triage function for CAMHS.
Essential Requirements:
- Educational Qualifications: Degree in Social Work (Australian Association of Social Workers full membership), Psychology (General registration and endorsement for clinical practice), or Occupational Therapy (Board registration).
- Personal Abilities: Strong communication skills, commitment to social justice principles, ability to work independently with limited supervision, and a dedication to personal and professional development.
- Experience: Extensive clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health, demonstrated ability in assessments and interventions, program development, and working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge: Thorough understanding of clinical work, developmental theory, assessment and intervention models, and government policies impacting child and family health.
