What is the role?

The Cyber Security & Risk branch, part of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Command is a key enabling Command that provides technological solutions to combat crime and support operational members through innovative solutions that impact upon the criminal environment. The products and services delivered are user focused, secure, and fit for purpose, while supported by a highly skilled, agile, and resilient workforce.

The purpose of the CIO Command is to co-design and empower the frontline through agile, secure and reliable digital capabilities to continually maximise the AFP's impact on the criminal environment. As a trusted partner, the CIO Command aims to drive adaptive technology solutions and capabilities to ensure the delivery of innovative, secure and sustainable systems.

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

Depending on the team, the role may involve a combination of the following examples:

  • Development and implementation of Cyber Security Policies and supporting documentation to provide direction, guidance and protection for the organisation.
  • Proactive monitoring and vulnerability scanning across AFP networks, platforms and applications, Hunt & Incident Response activities and enhancing cyber security infrastructure and systems.
  • Continual improvement opportunities within the Cyber Security and Risk Branch.

Essential Requirements
  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) or Negative Vetting 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Have contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
  • Relevant qualifications or extensive experience and knowledge in Cyber Security.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate between business and technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational, negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Sound understanding of the cyber security threat landscape. (Band 7 only)
  • Experience in creating and maintaining a cooperative team environment that recognises, values, and uses individual differences and diversity. (Band 7 only)
  • Proven experience in producing, reviewing, and enhancing cybersecurity policy and standards documentation. (Band 7 only)
  • Experience in leading and managing change within a cyber security context. (Band 7 only)
