We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Network Security Engineer to join our client's team on a contract basis in Toowong. This role is ideal for a professional with deep expertise in Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco ACI, looking to contribute to large-scale enterprise security architecture and operations.

About the Role

As a Network Security Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of secure and scalable network solutions across both on-prem and hybrid environments. You will work closely with architecture, infrastructure, and application teams to maintain and improve network integrity, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure and maintain Palo Alto firewalls, Panorama, and associated security policies (threat prevention, URL filtering, VPNs.
  • Deploy and manage Cisco ACI fabric, including APIC configurations, policies, contracts, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct firewall rule reviews, network security audits, and ongoing optimisation.
  • Support network segmentation and Zero Trust security strategies.
  • Resolve performance and connectivity issues across complex hybrid environments.
  • Monitor and respond to network-related security events and incidents.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network topologies, configurations, and processes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in enterprise network security or network engineering roles.
  • Proven experience with Palo Alto NGFWs, Panorama, and advanced security configuration.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Cisco ACI architecture and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and concepts: Layer 2/3, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, IPsec, VPNs.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture, compliance frameworks, and best practices.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Python, or Terraform is highly desirable.
  • Excellent documentation, troubleshooting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Required Skills

  • PCNSE – Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer
  • CCNP Data Center, Cisco ACI Operations Specialist
  • ITIL, CISSP, or similar security-focused certifications
