CEO - National Advocacy Mental Health
Leverage business acumen and lived experience to advocate, unlock opportunities, and influence systemic reform—improving outcomes for individuals with high need mental health challenges, and their families.
- Need passion + integrity + experience + top communications + relationship skills
- Work remotely from any major city in commuting distance of Canberra/Sydney
- Attractive 6-figure salary package
A federation of six non-competitive, community-based organisations, this enterprise has worked tirelessly for 30+ years to represent the needs of people impacted by high need mental health challenges. Acting as a unifying force, it uses multiple advocacy channels to give voice to issues including the improvement of mental health policy, services, social structure and attitudes.
As the incoming national Chief Executive of this federated organisation, responsible for countrywide advocacy and government relations, you will have ample opportunity to shape the future direction of this courageous enterprise. And with it, the futures of those living with mental health challenges and their families.
Leading the national office, in alliance with the Board, you'll encourage membership growth and support member capability and business development, while growing advocacy, partnerships and creating new opportunities for meaningful representation. It's a big, busy and far-reaching role.
Work collaboratively to amplify the voices of lived experience….
Lived experience is increasingly recognised as a key criterion for leadership relevance in this still-fragmented sector. So, as CEO you will draw on your own experiences as you work to establish 'your' organisation as the respected national voice for people living with high need mental health challenges and their families.
With a modest resource base and the loyal support of a small and dedicated national team, you will interact with member groups to guarantee their interests are always well represented across policy, funding, service delivery and – very importantly – in the perceptions of the public.
This is a leadership role where you really do need the ability to converse comfortably, cohesively and diplomatically with stakeholders at every level of society. And that includes through all levels of government and business to the people who are leading small support groups from remote locations.
Calm, unflappable and naturally of an enquiring nature – you are in ready rapport with individuals, families, community workers, clinicians and others who have experience managing complex mental health challenges.
This is an unusual, influential, hands-on role for an experienced or emerging Chief Executive who, with a passion for social justice, equity and inclusivity, is determined to improve the prospects for those living with high need mental health challenges.
So, if changing the ways these issues are viewed and managed is very close to your heart, write and tell us why and how your skills and experience can make a real difference.
