Who are we?

Sonder is an inclusive, not-for-profit organisation that has been providing better quality health and support services to the South Australian community since 1993. We support thousands of people each year to access services across seven key domains – Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, Alcohol and/or other Drugs, Employment, Community Health, Disability, and Homelessness. The Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre is a place of hope grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs, values, spiritual connection to ancestral lands, seas, and waters, and cultural knowledge. It offers a culturally safe and welcoming environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access support for their mental health and social and emotional wellbeing. The Centre takes a holistic, whole person approach that respects and includes traditional healing methods. Staff are culturally aware, trauma-informed, recovery-focused, and provide warm, non-judgemental, and compassionate care.

Centre Implementation

Our centre is set to officially commence service delivery October 2025. We are now recruiting passionate, enthusiastic staff who are not only committed to delivering accessible and culturally safe care, but who are also excited by the unique opportunity to help shape something from the ground up. While our permanent centre is being established in the CBD, positions will be based at Sonder Marion and Sonder Port Adelaide.

About The Role

As our Social Worker, you will provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families experiencing mental distress. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver psychosocial assessments, therapeutic interventions, and care coordination that reflect the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework and the Centre's holistic, whole-of-life approach to healing. The role supports people across the lifespan and actively promotes cultural identity, self determination, and community connection as protective factors for wellbeing.

Experience Requirements

• Experience working as a Social Worker in mental health, SEWB, or community settings.
• Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families across the lifespan.
• Experience working with people experiencing complex needs, including trauma, substance use, or family violence.
• Experience in case management, advocacy, and interagency collaboration.
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from regional and remote communities is highly desirable

Qualification And Other Requirements

• Working with Vulnerable People Check
• Immunisations in accordance to SA Health Immunisation Policy
• Bachelor of Social Work
• Eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
