State Manager Qld – Metro Operations

Are you a commercially minded logistics leader with a passion for operational excellence, team culture and customer service? Are you ready to own a significant regional P&L, lead a high-performing team and drive the next stage of growth?

About the Role

Based in Yatala and overseeing operations across 5 key sites, you'll manage a workforce of 160+, take full P&L responsibility and deliver exceptional results for both internal and external clients. This is a role for a hands-on leader who can get stuck into the detail, drive commercial decisions, inspire high-performing teams and transform operational systems. You'll be at the front line of our customer relationships; your service mindset and commercial acumen will be crucial to how we're perceived by internal and external stakeholders.

About You

  • Proven experience in a senior operational leadership role within contract logistics or 3PL.
  • Strong P&L ownership experience; capable of financial modelling and cost analysis.
  • You possess a strong operational vision and the leadership skills necessary to guide a team in achieving excellence.
  • Experience leading teams through cultural and process change.
  • EBA and union experience (preferred).
  • Safety, quality and customer service are your non-negotiables.
  • Demonstrated experience in automation, Lean principles or modern warehousing practices is desirable.
  • Experience with WMS, SAP and TMS systems.
  • Strong relationship builder with internal stakeholders, frontline teams and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership: Own and manage the QLD P&L. You must be able to build and interpret Excel models, manage budgets and understand cost-to-serve in depth.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive safe, efficient local transport and warehousing operations. No linehaul.
  • Safety & Culture First: Embed a safety-first and people-first culture. Inspire your direct reports, build team capability and lead through values and vision.
  • Customer Engagement: Take accountability for service delivery. Be the go-to leader for major internal and external clients. Support business development through commercial modelling, tendering and relationship building.
  • Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and modernise manual processes. Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Growth Focus: Expand our external customer base (currently 15% of P&L), supported by your industry networks and commercial drive.
  • Automation Transition: Support Project Apollo (ASRS & AGV implementation). Automation experience is a bonus but learning agility is essential.
  • People Leadership: Coach and support your team (3 direct reports) and foster succession planning across the broader workforce.
