Practice Information :

This Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provides a broad range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the region. This organisation also provides family-focused Mental Health and Wellbeing services, as the lead for headspace Mt Isa and the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service.

Position Description :

The Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) is a vocational training program for medical practitioners in remote and rural Australia. The training is fully funded by the Australian Government and delivered via Distance Education and Remote Supervision, leading to Fellowship of the ACRRM and/or RACGP.

The General Practitioner will provide direct GP services and support clinical leadership within the organisation's care model.

The role also involves :

  • Participating in Clinical Governance and continuous service improvement.
  • Supporting service development and medical workforce growth, including supervision of GP Registrars and Medical students.
  • Enhancing Medicare income through high-quality clinical care and billing practices.

Selection criteria :

  • Ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with knowledge of their health issues.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance principles.
  • Competence in comprehensive patient assessments and primary care strategies.
  • Leadership skills to motivate a team of health professionals.
  • Experience with quality improvement processes, including audits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule and its application in ATSICCHS settings.
  • Proficiency with relevant technology.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Unconditional current registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted Medicare Provider Number.
  • Understanding of social, economic, and cultural factors affecting Indigenous health.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD).
  • Clean police check.
  • Current Blue Card or willingness to obtain one.
  • Flexibility to work hours as required, including travel and overnight stays in remote areas.
