Overview

Senior Associate - Environment & Planning at Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS). An opportunity to join our Sydney office on high-profile environment & planning matters, with training and mentoring from leading specialists and the chance to mentor junior lawyers.

We are a leading Australian law firm known for advising corporates and funds on complex transactions, disputes and regulatory matters. Our team focuses on planning and environmental law, ESG matters including climate change, modern slavery and nature positive, and provides advice across state and federal levels.

About the Team

Our Environment and Planning team advises on all aspects of planning and environmental law, including planning approvals, environmental licences, development contributions, contaminated land and pollution, compliance, biodiversity offsets, cultural heritage, native title, ESG, and water licensing. We regularly represent clients across multiple states and sectors.

About the Role

An opportunity exists for an Environment & Planning Senior Associate to join our Sydney office. You will:

  • play a key role on high-profile environment & planning matters
  • draft, review and negotiate core transaction documents
  • draft advices and undertake legal research on complex issues
  • represent clients in relevant state and federal courts

You will receive training and mentoring from leading specialists and will have the opportunity to train and mentor junior lawyers yourself. This is a chance to contribute to meaningful, complex matters in a supportive, commercially-minded environment.

About You

You should have strong technical aptitude and relevant experience, along with:

  • delivery of legal advice with a commercial, client-focused approach
  • ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and collaborate in a team
  • strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • a collaborative, positive and energetic approach
  • experience mentoring and training junior lawyers
  • 7+ PQE in Environment & Planning law gained within private practice
