Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities. The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai.

What is needed?

We currently have a Contracts Administrator Assistant position available on our I2S Project. We are looking for someone with strong commercial acumen who is willing to assist the commercial team meet its requirements.

This full-time role is Sydney-based until September, then 2:1 roster on site in Cootamundra.

Responsibilities include working with Engineers, Procurement, and Subcontractors to support successful project delivery.

Responsibilities Of The Role Include
  • Review draft scopes of works and draft and compile tender packages to accompany requests for quotations issued to subcontractors for project works
  • Conduct initial discussions/negotiations with subcontractors in consultation with the Contracts Lead to clarify terms and facilitate subcontract agreements
  • Manage and drive the review process to ensure the award of subcontractors within the required time frame and budget
  • Maintain the project procurement schedule / subcontract register
  • Assist the Delivery team to minimise subcontractor variation and extension of time claims where possible
  • Ensure costs for allocated subcontracts and cost codes are accurately maintained and communicate any cost issues to project teams
  • Assess commercial and contractual risks and identify controls for project management teams
  • Check compliance and prepare reporting on commercial performance of the subcontract
  • Ensure correct valuation and processing of progress claims within legislative timeframes
  • Operate and maintain commercial and subcontract systems including PCR, Asset Registers, and Contract Sum management
  • Undertake general business administration
  • Provide assistance to Accounts Payable and Site Administration in understanding subcontract rates and payments
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce, Accounting or equivalent
  • 12+ months of relevant commercial administration experience in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Contracts Administration or Quantity Surveying in the construction and engineering industry
  • Exposure to a variety of project values and complexities including subcontractor negotiations
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation/code on the project to prevent potential business exposure
  • Basic understanding/experience in document control processes in accordance with records management procedures
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and exposure to a contract management system (CRM)

About You

Willing to DIDO, or relocate within an hour's commute of Cootamundra/Stockinbingal. Be open to working a 2:1 roster (2 weeks on / 1 week off).
