The Curator oversees the Hume Gallery exhibition program and the day-to-day operations of galleries across the municipality, driving audience engagement and increasing visitation through the delivery of public programs and events.
What you'll be doing :
- Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of annual exhibitions and public programs, driving audience engagement and supporting the goals of the Council Plan.
- Oversee the annual Expression of Interest (EOI) process for applications to exhibit.
- Develop and distribute promotional materials and opportunities in support of the Gallery's program.
- Develop and manage contractual arrangements for the provision of services as required.
- Monitor the annual Gallery budget in accordance with Council policies, procedures, and budget delegations.
- Establish strong partnerships with key stakeholders including community members, artists, arts organisations, community and business organisations, government agencies, and schools to develop, implement, and support art and cultural activities.
- Represent Council within arts and cultural networks as required.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, strategies, and plans supporting the Galleries and arts and culture activities.
- Identify and prepare submissions for external funding and sponsorship opportunities.
The skills and experience you'll bring to the role :
- Degree or Diploma in the Art sector or a related discipline with relevant experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience in the visual arts or cultural sector.
- Highly developed skills in museum and curatorial practices and principles.
- Proven ability to conduct original, community-informed research supporting innovative and socially engaged exhibitions and programs.
- Ability to work effectively with communities to support capacity building, social connection, and expression through arts and cultural programming.
- Experience working with early-career and community artists to support professional development, mentorship, and artist-in-residence programs.
- Ability to plan and manage events and projects.
- Ability to develop, monitor, and evaluate budgets.
- Developed knowledge of the museum and visual arts sectors.
- Understanding of community cultural development principles.
- Experience in the physical installation of a wide variety of exhibitions.
- Experience in exhibition design and written interpretative material.
- Current driver's license.
