Who are we looking for?

GHD's Ecology, Natural Sciences and Heritage Group has an opportunity for a Botanist to join our Flora team in Victoria.

You'll be encouraged to focus on areas and projects that you are truly passionate about, develop your specific interests over time, and collaborate with our ecology teams in other states and territories to explore new landscapes.

Your role can be part-time or full-time, and can be based in any of our Victorian offices, with a preference for Melbourne or Mildura.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

1. Field-based botanical survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora survey and Vegetation Quality Assessments using the Habitat Hectares method
2. Ecological impact assessments and offsetting for a range of projects from small scale infrastructure impact assessments to assisting with major projects of state significance, e.g., technical documentation for Environment Effects Statements
3. Preparation of proposals and technical reports for public and private sector clients
4. Engaging in project management, client liaison, marketing, and business development.

What would you bring to the team?

1. Bachelor's degree in science with a Botany, Ecology or Environmental Science major, coupled with 2-5 years of experience conducting vegetation surveys in south-east Australia
2. Technical expertise in flora assessments for small to moderate-scale ecology projects as well as experience in developing plant identification skills and knowledge of Victoria's flora.
3. Experience undertaking Habitat Hectare assessments and VQA accreditation, or working towards achieving accreditation
4. Willingness to work flexibly and independently, particularly when undertaking flora surveys and traveling to remote locations
5. A current Victorian driver's license
