Time involved: (minimum) 2 hours per week

Responsibilities and commitment

• Ongoing long-term position (minimum 12-month commitment)
• Must be able to commit to at least one shift per week on a regular basis
• Any day of the week (including weekends)
• Volunteering from your own home; access to a computer/laptop with an internet connection
• Statement of voluntary service available after 12 months
• Commitment to participate in mandatory training and e-learning modules (approximately 1 hour per month)

Standard Shift Times

ACT/NSW/TAS/VIC: 7am-8am (AEDT); QLD/NT: 7am-8am (AEST); SA: 7:30am-9am (ACDT); WA: 7am-8am (AWST); additional times listed for other regions as subject to availability and discussion during interview

The programs

Telecross & Telecross Redi are services designed to support vulnerable Australians—particularly older individuals, those living alone, or people with health challenges—by providing daily wellbeing checks through friendly phone calls.

Telecross and Telecross Redi overview: Telecross provides a daily call to check health, wellbeing, and daily plans; Telecross Redi activates during declared emergencies to provide proactive calls to at-risk individuals. These programs aim to strengthen community resilience and keep clients safe, informed, and connected.

The opportunity

We are looking for warm, dependable volunteers who can relate to and empathise with a diverse range of older individuals, including those from various cultural backgrounds.

Key Requirements & Your Commitment

• Be willing to join a nationwide team delivering social inclusion programs within Aged and Community Care
• Possess excellent conversational skills, with the ability to listen actively and build trust
• Engage in conversation and activities appropriate to the client or group
• Make up to 20 brief calls per hour, following call guidelines and escalation procedures
• Respect privacy, rights, and dignity of clients; maintain confidentiality
• Utilise appropriate digital systems and follow guidelines for call handling and record-keeping
• Maintain professional boundaries to safeguard the well-being of the client and yourself
• Participate in mandatory learning and development to stay up-to-date in the aged and community care sector
• Uphold the Aged Care Code of Conduct and updates
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and ensure inclusive interactions

Application Requirements

• All volunteers will be required to undertake a National Police Check, organised through Red Cross
• Statutory Declaration if you have been a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than Australia after turning 16
