Parole Board Queensland was established as an independent authority and its statutory functions and powers are exercised independent from influence by Queensland Corrective Services (QCS). As an independent decision‑making body, the Board receives information from a range of people, service providers and organisations. The Board scrutinizes the information it is provided and maintains public confidence in the parole decision‑making process through transparency in its processes.
Note: The Secretariat is a business unit established under the Community Corrections and Specialist Operations division in QCS. The Secretariat supports the Board through the provision of administrative and legal support in accordance with QCS' statutory obligations relating to the operations of the Board.
We are seeking a legal professional to bring legal expertise, strategic thinking and leadership to support the Parole Board in navigating complex and sensitive legal matters. The role provides authoritative advice on case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation, often in high‑stakes scenarios involving litigation or ministerial review. The ability to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively will be key to driving effective, accountable decision‑making across the Board's operations.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include preparing legal reports, correspondence and briefing notes; liaising with Crown Law and other legal providers; conducting rigorous legal research and analysis; and appearing in the Supreme Court for directions hearings. You will apply sound judgment and problem‑solving skills to deliver timely, high‑quality legal support, while fostering a positive, client‑focused work environment that meets public sector standards and contributes to the Board's strategic goals.
Choosing a career at QCS offers opportunities to develop your skills within an environment that provides high standards of service delivery through diligence, efficiency, collaboration, knowledge sharing and support for coworkers, stakeholders, the community, prisoners and offenders.
The role description attached to this advertisement provides a full outline of the role requirements; you are encouraged to review this to assist with your application for this position.
Within the context of the role responsibilities described under "About the role" in the position description, the ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experiences and suitability against the Leadership competencies for Queensland Individual Contributor—Vision, Results and Accountability.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
