As an Apprentice Fabricator, you will support the Workshop and Fleet team and gain practical skills in fabrication and welding activities to contribute to the Works and Services Business Unit. This position is based at the Oak Flats Services Depot and reports to the Fabrication Coordinator.
You will complete a Certificate III in Engineering, Fabrication course at North Wollongong TAFE. You will gain practical knowledge in welding, cutting, shaping and assembling metal components using tools and machinery in a hands-on workshop environment. This opportunity is open to school leavers, mature age applicants and/or those who have already commenced their Certificate III in Engineering.
Please note: This opportunity is dependent upon external funding confirmation. Successful applicants will commence in January 2026 based on funding being confirmed.
Program and benefitsOur apprenticeships cover theoretical and practical requirements of on-the-job and off-the-job training. After completing your apprenticeship you will have formal qualifications with four years of practical experience and the potential to gain additional tickets such as forklift ticket, loader competency and more.
Council's Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) Program aims to grow Council's skilled workforce by creating job opportunities and a talent pipeline for specialised roles and to develop future leaders by providing employment opportunities and professional development experiences that support external study. CAT participants receive ongoing training, guidance and support from workplace mentors while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

We offer- Temporary Full time up to 4 years (or for the duration of the apprenticeship)
- 38 hours per week with access to a 9 Day-fortnight
- Salary range from $601.70 per week (16 years old) to $827.40 per week (18+)
- Plus 12% superannuation
