Contract: This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026 with possible extension and/or permanency.
The SchoolKiara College is seeking a dedicated and passionate leader for the role of Teacher - Specialised Learning Program (SLP) – Autism. This opportunity is ideal for an enthusiastic individual committed to supporting the holistic development of autistic students to achieve their full potential.

The RoleThe SLP provides individualised, neurodiversity‑affirming support designed to engage students in learning, enhance academic achievement, and foster essential adaptive skills. The program targets autistic students at risk of disengagement or underachievement and may include teaching responsibilities across the mainstream setting. You will collaborate with the SLP Program Coordinator to ensure program success and may work with the wider school community to provide consistent support across settings.
Responsibilities- Tailored Plans: Develop and implement individualized plans focusing on organisational skills, social cognition, positive peer relationships, and emotional self‑regulation.
- Dedicated Homerooms: Lead the SLP homeroom with education assistants, using evidence‑based approaches to support neurodivergent students.
- Neurodiversity‑Affirming Strategies: Apply strategies aligned with national guidelines to ensure inclusive practices.
- Whole‑School Support: Collaborate with the school community to provide consistent support across settings, recognising each student's strengths and challenges.
- Case Management and Planning: Design and implement student‑centred supports and documented plans with students, caregivers, and staff to enhance skills.
- Social–Emotional Curriculum: Teach social–emotional learning aligned with ACARA v9.0 Personal & Social Capabilities; may include mainstream components.
Work closely with the SLP Program Coordinator to ensure program success and:
- Professional Learning: Participate in ongoing professional development to deliver inclusive education for autistic students.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to whole‑school approaches to inclusivity and engagement.
The following work‑related requirements apply to teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder without a diagnosed intellectual disability:
- Apply evidence‑based pedagogy for improving student outcomes relevant to the WA curriculum.
- Commit to relevant training, positive behaviour support, and evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Monitor, review, and report on student performance with individualised learning plans and robust data systems.
- Efficiently deploy resources and manage education assistants to ensure program fidelity.
- Demonstrate high‑level interpersonal skills to communicate with colleagues, parents, students, and the school community.
