About The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to lead their in-house planning function and drive the successful delivery of a diverse property development portfolio across Western Australia. Reporting to senior leadership, this role will oversee a team of six planners and play a key role in shaping strategic planning outcomes, managing approvals, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation transitioning into a new purpose-built office in Perth’s western suburbs, offering a modern and collaborative working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6 planners in a large multi disciplinary consultancy, fostering performance, capability development, and engagement
  • Oversee planning strategy and statutory approvals across residential, mixed-use, and/or commercial developments
  • Manage all stages of the planning process including feasibility input, due diligence, applications, and approvals
  • Provide strategic advice to development and executive teams on planning risks, opportunities, and timelines
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local councils, government authorities, and external consultants
  • Monitor and interpret changes in planning legislation, policies, and regulatory frameworks
  • Drive efficiencies in planning processes, systems, and reporting
  • Support site acquisition and project feasibility with planning insights
  • Ensure projects align with planning frameworks, community expectations, and sustainability considerations

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Urban & Regional Planning or a related discipline
  • Significant recent experience in a WA based planning consultancy
  • Proven track record managing planning approvals and complex developments
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a private consultancy
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing teams
  • Strong understanding of WA planning frameworks and statutory processes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to balance risk, timelines, and project outcomes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
