About the role

Melville Motors is seeking an experienced Service Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of our service department operations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of customer service, managing technician teams, and driving the profitability and efficiency of our service operations. This position is integral to maintaining Melville Motors' reputation for excellence in the automotive industry.

Key responsibilities

Manage and supervise the service department team, including scheduling, performance management, and ongoing professional development of technicians and support staff

Oversee all service operations to ensure efficient workflow, timely job completion, and adherence to quality standards

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of service inventory, equipment, and tools, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper maintenance

Handle customer inquiries, manage service appointments, and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction throughout the service process

Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to vehicle servicing, repairs, and maintenance

Monitor service department financial performance, including labour costs, parts utilisation, and revenue targets

Implement and maintain health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff

Liaise with management regarding service department performance, staffing needs, and strategic improvements

Maintain detailed service records and reports to track performance metrics and identify areas for improvement

What we're looking for

Proven experience as a Service Manager or in a similar supervisory role within the automotive industry

Strong technical knowledge of vehicle servicing, repairs, and maintenance procedures

Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to motivate and develop staff

Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to manage client expectations professionally

Proficiency in service management software and computer systems commonly used in automotive dealerships

Sound understanding of automotive industry best practices, safety regulations, and compliance requirements

Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively

Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to improving service department operations

Relevant qualifications or certifications in automotive service or management are advantageous

Valid driver's licence and willingness to test drive vehicles when necessary
