Denison College of Secondary Education - Kelso High Campus is a comprehensive secondary school with an enrolment of 800 students, including 160 Aboriginal students. The Head Teacher PDHPE works in partnership with the principal, executive team, staff and community to develop and facilitate a positive school culture.
They are collaborative, collegial and empathetic leaders who work closely with others to create and sustain the conditions in which the values of public education flourish. Their role is characterized by their educational expertise, their ability to effectively lead teams, and their strategic leadership. They are responsive to the changing circumstances specific to their students, teachers, school and community.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated capacity to lead a faculty with vision and purpose fostering collective teacher efficacy and driving continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated capacity to plan and execute curriculum reforms for the 7-12 PDHPE framework using an evidence-based approach, creating high-quality teaching and learning programs that emphasise explicit teaching methods.
- Demonstrated capacity to guide and assist staff in developing inclusive and responsive strategies to address the needs of diverse learners, including those with disabilities, complex needs, and trauma backgrounds.
- High levels of educational expertise and demonstrated capacity to support the growth and development of beginner and early career teachers through coaching and mentoring, differentiated professional learning and effective feedback.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
