Join our Mental Health Rehabilitation Services team as a Senior Carer Consultantshaping the future of mental health care.

The newly built Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit at Noarlunga Hospital is opening its doors, offering a fresh, state-of-the-art environment in Adelaide's vibrant southern suburbs. This isn't just a job; it's a chance to join a groundbreaking facility from day one.

The Senior Lived Experience Carer Consultant elevates and integrates the carer perspective into mental health rehabilitation and discharge planning, drawing on their personal experience supporting a family member with mental health challenges and recovery. As the sole carer consultant on the unit, they provide lived experience leadership within the multidisciplinary team and the Clinical Governance Committee. Key responsibilities include educating staff and families on recovery and self-management, establishing family and carer participation processes for service improvement, evaluating experiences, and partnering with health organizations to champion the value of Carer Consultants.

About the role:

Duties for the role will include:

  • Utilise lived experience to champion family-based recovery, actively supporting families through a non-clinical, empathetic approach throughout a consumer's admission.
  • Lead the integration of carer perspectives into rehabilitation care and discharge planning, coordinating feedback mechanisms and contributing to multidisciplinary assessments and planning.
  • Develop and deliver education and resources for families and staff, fostering a culture that values carer lived experience and promotes community acceptance and stigma reduction.
  • Contribute to service improvement and reform initiatives, including policy development and quality activities, by bringing the voice of lived experience to the forefront.
  • Provide professional supervision and leadership to other Carer Consultants, fostering a positive work culture and building collaborative partnerships within and outside the organisation.

About you:

  • Hold a minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or be enrolled to complete within 12 months), possess strong organisational and communication skills, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team with empathy and a recovery-oriented approach.
  • Must have personal lived experience of recovery from mental illness or caring for someone with mental illness, and demonstrate how this experience can positively impact others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to the achievement of team goals and objectives
  • Ability to promote a culture of hope and optimism by sharing your lived experience of recovery to assist others within the role.
