About the Opportunity

Join the SSN AUKUS Build Program as aTechnical Author – Build Readiness, where you'll create, coordinate, and maintain high-quality technical documentation to support Operations and Manufacturing Engineering. You'll work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, planners, and UK-based counterparts to develop documentation that supports build sequencing, work instructions, and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to support production and build readiness
  • Collaborate with SMEs and engineers to gather and validate technical content
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with engineering and production requirements
  • Work with planners and UK-based counterparts to support build sequencing and manufacturing readiness
  • Ensure documentation complies with program standards and version control protocols
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes and tools

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis.

About You

  • Proven experience in technical writing or authoring within a complex engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of engineering and production documentation standards
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering data
  • Proficiency in document management systems and authoring tools (e.g. Adobe FrameMaker, MS Word, XML-based tools)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple documentation streams

Desirable

  • Experience in Defence, shipbuilding, or submarine programs
  • Familiarity with UK and/or Australian naval documentation standards
  • Experience working in a joint venture or multi-national program environment
  • Knowledge of configuration management and version control practices

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
