As an ASD EL1 Lead Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, build, and support of the Organisation's IP-based Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, firewalls, and supporting ASD systems in a period of technological change.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake complex engineering and project work.
- Ensure compliance with policy and legislative frameworks.
- Translate and shape strategies, policies, and operational practices.
- Manage methodology, systems, and procedures within engineering management.
- Evaluate technical and design packages, including scoping, planning, and reviewing actions.
- Oversee installation, upgrade, operation, and control of local and wide area networks for data, voice, audio, text, or images communication.
- Lead network planning and design infrastructure to meet service level agreements.
- Maintain knowledge of current ASD and industry network hardware and software products.
- Identify risks and review ASD's ICT risk management approaches, suggesting improvements.
- Apply change management to ensure network operation continuity during installations or integrations.
- Build relationships and liaise with stakeholders including teams, peers, and other organizations.
- Motivate, mentor teams, and allocate resources to deliver results.
- Analyze complex network engineering issues and recommend solutions.

About Our TeamASD seeks highly motivated Network Engineers from diverse backgrounds to deliver systems supporting intelligence, cybersecurity, and offensive cyber operations for the Australian Government and Defence Force (ADF).

You will work in multi-disciplinary teams delivering everything from small bespoke solutions to large-scale enterprise networks.
Candidate ProfileOur ideal candidate demonstrates collaboration, adaptability, and eagerness to learn new network technologies.
- Experience with routing and switching, including automation and monitoring.
- Knowledge of network security solutions, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud routing technologies.
- Experience installing and managing hardware such as routers, switches, and servers.
- Troubleshooting ICT infrastructure issues.
- Cisco and/or Juniper firewall experience.
- Understanding of OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and optical transport technologies.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems.
- Leadership skills to guide network architecture aligning with organizational goals.
