Medical Laboratory Scientist (Grade 1)

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term 12 Month, Full-Time position at 80 hour per fortnight (with ADO) within the Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry Laboratory.

As a Grade 1 scientist you are responsible for the performance of laboratory duties as directed by the Scientist-in-Charge. You are responsible to ensure that the performance of any duties are carried out according to the policies, procedures & technical methods as documented in the laboratory operational manuals.

Classification for this position with range from RX1 – RX7, Grade 1 Year 1 to Grade 1 Year 7 (FTE base salary $63,674 to $93,612 per annum, plus superannuation).

What you'll achieve :

Perform diagnostic laboratory tests following techniques and procedures documented in laboratory manuals of the Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry LaboratoryParticipate in professional development activities to ensure that best laboratory practice is maintained.Perform quality control testing, interpret data and follow-up non-conformances as documentedParticipate in Quality Assurance Programmes as directedParticipate in quality improvement processes in accordance with the Quality Management SystemIdentify, troubleshoot and report to senior staff, any instrument malfunctionMaintain consumables stock to ensure continuity of testing

Your skills and experience :

Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science or equivalentProfessional experience in a diagnostic pathology laboratory with experience in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Processing and / or Diagnostic Flow Cytometry is desirableGood laboratory, interpersonal and organisational skillsThe ability to work well within a team as well as a service focus approach

About the Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry Laboratory :

The Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry Laboratory, within the Department of Laboratory Services, is the Haematopoietic Stem Cell Processing Facility for The Royal Children's Hospital as part of the Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program. In addition, the laboratory provides diagnostic immunophenotyping and disease monitoring support by flow cytometry.
