National Operations State Service Centre (NOSSC) is the centralised entry point for reports and requests to the AFP, providing operations support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Applications are sought from applicants wishing to be considered for the role of NOSSC Watch Floor Officer to triage critical information and respond to incidents and other emergency situations. This position is open to being offered on a full-time, part-time or casual basis to suit the 24/7 rostered operations of the NOSSC team.
Watch Floor Officers are responsible for the day-to-day completion of Watch Floor tasks relating to radio communications and routine Watch Floor operations matters. Under the supervision of the Watch Floor Sergeant and guidance from the Senior Team Member (STM), you will complete all routine tasks and seek assistance from the STM where required.
As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?- Provide radio and telecommunication support to frontline policing and protective service officers.
- Coordinate responses to alarm activations and liaise with key stakeholders and dispatch units.
- Monitor Computer Aided Dispatch and Mobile Responder to ensure appropriate situational awareness of unit locations and job attendance.
- Under direction of the Watch Floor Sergeant, support the response to critical incidents at airports and Protected Establishments around Australia.
- Search for entities using both open source and AFP internal systems to support critical incidents as well provide after-hours assistance for urgent and critical matters for international teams.
- Manage border alerts and alert activations, including liaison with relevant government stakeholders.
- Operate in the AFP's national call centre, managing queries in relation to requests/reports from the public, airport watch list and the family law court, as well communication with mental health consumers.
- Work on a Rostered Operations shift pattern subject to the appropriate conditions detailed in the AFP Enterprise Agreement.
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Strong aptitude for problem solving and analytical processing.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively contribute within a team.
- Excellent communication skills, including high-level writing, editing and presentation skills, and effective cross-cultural communication.
- Candidates will be required to complete a Psychological assessment to be able to progress through this process.

- Ability to assess, evaluate and analyse information to develop arguments using logic and evidence.
- An understanding of the role of law enforcement investigations and intelligence.
- Proven and applied data literacy, information management and applied research skills.
- Maintain timely and appropriate verbal communications under pressure, apply verbal de-escalation skills and deliver professional customer service to diverse government stakeholders and members of the public.
- Manage a high volume of tasks, prioritise and triage urgent matters appropriately.
- This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
- Successful applicants will be required to work flexibly on rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as night shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Rostered Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Rostered Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
