Tertiary students gain practical experience in Early Years education at Hume City Council, supporting children's development in a diverse, inclusive environment.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shadowing and gaining experience in the daily activities of an Early Childhood educator.
  • Being paired with a host supervisor for guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback.
  • Developing respectful and collaborative relationships with Early Childhood professionals, children, and families within the Service.
  • Demonstrating positive interactions with children to foster inclusive, secure, and interactive learning environments.
  • Participating in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for children.
  • Supporting the growth and development of children in play-based indoor/outdoor programs.
  • Undertaking documentation of children's learning and development.
  • Performing activities under supervision, aligned with course requirements to ensure placement outcomes are met.
About You

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Currently studying toward a Certificate 3 in Children's Services, Diploma of Children's Services, Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching), or another relevant Early Childhood qualification.
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Provide a signed Student Placement Agreement, including the education provider's insurance documentation.
  • Agree to act in accordance with Council's Employee Code of Conduct while undertaking placement.
